Ellis is a high school senior with a meticulously planned future. Her goal is to get into Columbia's journalism program and launch a successful career. Her plans are thrown into chaos when her parents announce their separation, and she and her mother move from New York City to the small, idyllic town of Bramble Falls, Connecticut, to live with her aunt.
Bramble Falls is known for its annual Fall Festival, and Ellis finds herself constantly pulled into the town's charming, autumn-themed events, despite her desire to focus on her applications. The town is full of distractions, none more so than Cooper Barnett, a local barista who was once her childhood best friend and first kiss. Now, Cooper seems to want nothing to do with her.
As Ellis repeatedly bumps into Cooper and is drawn deeper into the community and its quirky residents, she must confront her past and the one-sided history she shares with him.
